Limoncello Spritz

When the sun is high and the days stretch long, there’s nothing quite like a Limoncello Spritz to capture that golden, laid-back feeling of summer in a glass. With its zesty citrus punch, gentle sparkle, and just the right touch of sweetness, this Italian cocktail is the perfect companion for patio lounging, brunches, or impromptu happy hours. Whether you’re dreaming of the Amalfi Coast or just craving something refreshing and easy to make, this vibrant spritz is your ticket to sipping sunshine.

Close up shot of a stemless wine glass sitting on a wood chopping board filled with Limoncello Spritz. The glass is filled with ice and the drink is a yellow ombre, darker yellow on the bottom which lightens as it goes up. There is a yellow straw in the glass and it is garnished with fresh mint.

Although this Limoncello Spritz captures the essence of summer, I also enjoy it in early spring, when the weather’s still unpredictable and I’m daydreaming about warmer days ahead. It’s a little reminder that sunshine and slow afternoons are just around the corner.

Why I Love a Limoncello Spritz

  • Bright, citrusy flavor – Limoncello brings a vibrant lemony zing that’s both refreshing and uplifting.
  • Light and bubbly – Topped with Prosecco and a splash of club soda, it’s crisp, fizzy, and never too heavy.
  • Tastes like sunshine – Whether you’re poolside or bundled up in early spring, it delivers instant summer vibes.
  • Italian charm – Inspired by the Amalfi Coast, it’s a little taste of la dolce vita in every glass.
  • Quick and easy to make – No fancy tools required—just pour, stir, and sip.
  • Perfect for entertaining – Elegant yet effortless, it’s a crowd-pleaser for brunches, showers, and aperitivo hour.
  • Customizable – Garnish with mint, thyme, or rosemary, add a splash of gin, or swap in flavored sparkling water for a twist.

Equipment Needed

  • A jigger for measuring – or get a whole bartending set if you plan to make other mixed cocktails
  • A bar spoon for giving a little stir at the end
  • Wine glasses – small wine glasses around 11oz are perfect for this drink.

Ingredients for Limoncello Spritz

Ingredients needed to make a Limoncello Spritz. On the left is a yellow bottle of limoncello, in the middle is a bottle of prosecco, and on the right is a small can of club soda.

Limoncello – provides that lemon sunshine and just the right amount of sweetness.

Prosecco – A little bubbly makes this drink fun.

Club Soda – Adds more bubbles and the salts help bring out the subtle nuances in the drink. Could be replaced with sparkling water if necessary.

Ice – keeps the drink cold

Fresh Mint – optional. Could also garnish with a sprig of rosemary or thyme.

Lemon Slice – optional garnish

How to Make a Limoncello Spritz

Fill a wine glass with ice. If I’m garnishing with a lemon slice, I will add it at this point between the ice and the side of the glass.

Three shots side by side outlining how to pour a limoncello spritz. The picture on the left is of a non-stemmed wine glass filled of ice and a lemon slice. Limoncello is being poured in, out of a jigger. The middle picture is of the same glass now with limoncello in it, and it is being filled with bubbly prosecco. The final picture on the right is the glass being topped off with bubbly club soda.

Pour in 2 oz of chilled limoncello

Pour in 3 oz of chilled prosecco

Top with 1 oz of club soda

Give it a little stir then garnish with a sprig of fresh mint, serve with or without a straw. Enjoy!

Notes

  1. I like to have all my ingredients chilled, so the drink is cold from the start and doesn’t cause the ice to melt prematurely.
  2. Adding the lemon slice before the liquids makes it easier to submerge the lemon without sticking your finger into the final drink.
  3. Prosecco can be subbed with any bubbly wine of your choice, champagne, sparkling wine, cava, crémant, sekt…
  4. Club soda is normally used in making this spritz, it has added salts which can enhance the flavor, but you can also get away with sparkling water.
  5. Mint is a great garnish, but some people prefer rosemary or thyme.
