Sweet potato fries are adored for their natural sweetness and satisfying crispiness. Cooking them, especially in an air fryer, enhances their sweetness with a slight caramelization. Using frozen sweet potato fries adds convenience, offering a swift side dish for any meal. Plus, not using your oven for the side dish frees it up for the main course or avoids heating up the house in summer.

What’s Great About These Air Fry Frozen Sweet Potato Fries

We often rush to prepare meals, so having a fast side dish is essential. I keep a bag of frozen fries or sweet potato fries in the freezer for these moments as they are perfect for quick after-school snacks that kids can make. No oven necessary—just heat up the countertop air fryer, and in 14 minutes, they have a delicious snack. I also have a recipe for air fryer frozen french fries if you prefer.

Ingredients

Ingredients to make sweet potato fries include: Frozen Sweet potaoes, salt, and pepper.
  • 1 bag frozen sweet potato fries (1 lb)
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Necessary Equipment

The necessary kitchen tools required to make air fry frozen sweet potato fries is quite minimal. I use the Cosori 5qt air fryer similar to this one on Amazon. Disclosure: as an amazon affiliate I earn from qualifying purchases. If you purchase any of the items from the links in this recipe I will receive a commission at no expense to you. This helps support my work and allows me to bring more yummy recipes your way. If you don’t have an air fryer, you can make these in the oven too, as that is the traditional way. You will need to bake them a little longer, and they might not be as crispy.

Let’s See How Easy it is to Make These Sweet Potato Fries

1. Preheat air fryer to 360 F.

2. Fill air fryer basket with a layer of the frozen sweet potato. A little overlap is ok, but you want good air circulation around the fries. Good air circulation is the key to crispy fries.

3. Cook fries at 360F for 10 minutes.

4. After 10 minutes, shake the basket to flip the fries. Continue cooking for another 4 minutes or until the fries becoming crunchy and slightly golden. Total cooking time will depend on the thickness of your sweet potato fries and your air fryer.

5. Immediately add a pinch of salt and pepper to the hot fries (or more if you prefer) and serve with your favourite dipping sauce

Notes

  1. Cooking times may vary depending on the thickness of the frozen sweet potato fries you have. Never hurts to give a taste test to tell if they are really done 😉.
  2. You do not need to spray with vegetable oil before cooking. Most frozen fries come with a coating of oil already on them (the coating is frozen solid). If you want to add salt and pepper before cooking you can add a spray of vegetable oil and then sprinkle with salt and pepper. The oil spray allows the salt and pepper to stick to the fry, but you can skip this if you add the salt and pepper right after cooking. The hot oil present on the fries will allow the salt and pepper to stick. Why add the extra calories?

FAQs

  1. What sauces should I serve alongside these fries? Sweet potato fries go great with ketchup, chipotle mayo, or ranch. But try them with your favourite sauce and let me know in the comments below.
  2. How should I store leftovers? I don’t know if you will have any leftovers, but if you do you can seal them in an airtight container and put them in the fridge for a couple of days. You can reheat them in the air fryer at 360F for 3 minutes before serving.
  3. Are sweet potato fries healthier than regular fries? You can check out this article from Healthline that compares the two. The bottom line: sweet potato fries are slightly higher in calories and carbs than French fries but also higher in vitamin A — giving them a nutritional edge.
  4. Are there other spice blends that go well on sweet potato fries? Yes! Salt and pepper are a classic for fries, but you could also try salt, cinnamon, and paprika, or salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. Or your own herb blends I’m sure would be delicious.

And if you prefer, I also have a recipe for air fryer frozen french fries.
